For a child that, “wasn’t really heavy into fashion” who would have thought that Ricky Davis would become Ricky Trendy Da’Vista one of Hartford, Connecticut’s most identifiable fashionistas. The former bashful-bookworm isn’t just known for his bold over the top fashion sense. Da’Vista is also an accomplished stylist and accessories designer. His astonishing earrings, necklaces, and purses can be spotted on “It” girls all over town.  On March 13th Da’Vista will host his very first fashion show Trendy Walk on the Runway, which he also produced. Da’Vista will be showcasing some of Hartford’s most talented designers like: Lady Kelly Designs, Sani Auri by Carmen Veal, and Spanish Eyes Designs. Diva Davanna who has walked the runways on the Tyra Show and America’s Next Top Model will also be there!

You have said you were a science geek/ bookworm as a child. When did you realize fashion was your calling?

Trendy- When I hit middle school. I would watch my mom get ready for special occasions, and soon I began to give her pointers.

Sounds like the beginnings of your interest in styling.

Trendy- Yes it took off from there. I started styling my mom and myself.

Did you begin styling and accessory design simultaneously?

Trendy- I began professionally styling in 2007 and marketing my accessories in fall 2009.

What inspired you to begin making jewelry?

Trendy- Well my eye for fashion and the fact that I wasn’t really seeing anything over the top or awe-inspiring locally. I first took a shot at being a clothing designer, but as I was making the clothing for a fashion show I wasn’t really feeling it. So that led me to jewelry. I figured my bold jewelry could jazz up a simple outfit.

How have you marketed your accessories?

Trendy- Primarily through Facebook at the end of last year, and now my jewelry can be found right here at Vice Versa Boutique.

How did your business relationship with Vice Versa Boutique start?

Trendy- Well I first attended their Online Launch Party/ Fashion Show in September 2009 and loved it. I felt like my jewelry would compliment the innovative pieces in their store. So I met with the owners and they were sold on the idea!

What kind of reception you getting about your jewelry?

Trendy- I am getting excellent feedback! Customers keep coming back and placing orders. My accessories have been used in magazine photo shoots and many fashion shows.

How would you describe the fashion scene in Hartford?

Trendy- Well, I think it’s kind of boring. It’s like people are afraid to step outside the box with their personal style and with some fashion events. But I think with producing more ground-breaking fashion shows, holding more networking events, and supporting local boutiques we can get on the right track.

Are you nervous about your first show?

Trendy- Very nervous, excited, and anxious! Me, the designers, and everyone who has contributed to this show have worked so hard. The show is going to be over the top and couture driven! All the designers are local! There will be 7 different ones. And Diva Davanna herself will be a guest.

What do you hope to accomplish with this show?

Trendy- I want to get my foot in the door of the fashion world beyond Hartford. But at the same time I want to bring exposure to Connecticut, and put us on the map!
