“Coco, Coco Coco” is a portion of the chorus to the song that Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (Audrey Tautou) and her sister Adrienne Chanel (Marie Gillain) sing as they perform in a small bar in Moulins, France. It isn’t a glamorous life at all. She is born poor in1883 in a small French city, an orphan for most of her young life. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel would go on to create Chanel, the label of classic and chic silhouettes that is still one of the most recognizable brands today. Her life prior to the label is intricate and inspiring.

Her dreams of being in a famous performing duo with her sister are shattered when Adrienne runs off with a rich man she falls in love with. Coco meets a millionaire of her own, Étienne Balsan (Benoît Poelvoorde) and is determined to succeed. She bodly moves into his countryside mansion. There she lives a very interesting life filled with prosperous people, parties, and play. The wealthy women in their ostentatious frocks with feathers and lace pulled exteremely tight startles Coco. Her minimalist menswear inspired look is laughed at among the rich, but that does not discourage her.
